Loving the Work

" Loving the Work "
Young Single Adult
Family Home Evening
- The First of The New Year -

David (white shirt) introduced a lesson topic of freedom....and then it just exploded from there.  The conversation led to several of the service members unloading about comments people have made to them about their military service, suggesting that they can't believe they are willing to go overseas and kill people.  It made Dusty and I fighting mad!  Of course, we kept it to ourselves.  It hurt us to hear the faint echo of pain in our young soldiers voices.  They were proud to be serving their country.  They believed they were putting their lives on the line for something bigger than themselves.  Then, to have people who should know better, belittling their service, was like a slap in the face.  Many of them had similar experiences. Those who wanted to share them did.
And then the healing began...
Several of the young soldiers took turns sharing uplifting thoughts and comments about Military Service.  One young man opened his scriptures to the Book of Mormon and Captain Moroni raises the Title of Freedom and marches throughout the land to rally its citizens to stand and fight for the lands, their home, their families and their freedoms.  As usual, we ended the meeting with prayer.  It was very inspiring.

Sunday January 8, 2012
Elder Dusty Wilson and Sister Darre Wilson
gave their first talks of their Mission at the
Hopkinsville, Kentucky Ward today.

Look at that innocent smile - after he came
out from hiding under his sweatshirt hood.

Kade is never shy.

                                   Josh, quit trying to hide!

Transfer Breakfast
Every 6 weeks the missionaries have transfers.
That means that some, not all, are transferred to
whatever other location the Mission President feels
they should be assigned to.  The Monday before
transfers is the "Transfer Breakfast",  hosted by
                                          yours truly.

Sister Ratuvukivuki and Sister Warwood
arrived early to help prepare the meal.

The Elders did their morning calisthenics !
Nice workout! Don't slobber on the carpet.
                           Sister Franson is being
                       transferred today to Hoptown
Late arrivals dropping their bags
in the hall along with
all of the other missionary bags.
And, the R U S H is on...for the computers.
Except for Elder Iaulualo...the Elder from Samoa.
Notice how the door is off its hinges?

Everyone is getting their cameras ready.
The Hoptown Zone
Ladies first, Thank you Elders !
While the Sisters dish up,
the Elders get a back rub.
Or are they just trying to keep
      their stomachs from growling?
                          Now, it is -
                    ?  Good food ?
                                                                ...and Good times.

It's not always good times.  They work hard.
Most of the time they are beating the streets,
knocking on doors, teaching lessons, attending
meetings, studying and praying - alot.

Sometimes, don't you just wonder what would make a 19 year old young man, and 21 year old young woman give up 18 - 24 months of their life to serve a mission...without getting paid for it?  In fact, get this - THEY pay for their own missions.
             - Discussing a game that I've
                   never heard of -
              and still don't understand.
                           And just chillin'...
              And writing home...
               Sister Ratuvukivuki must have the
most beautiful smile in all of Figi.

- Welcome Home Daddy -

This is where the cheering and flag waving began -

- and where the shouts went out across the field -

                       Daddy !  Daddy !  Daddy !

Where is he?   Can you see him?

       - Look, There he is ! -

Welcome Home Soldier

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Charles taught the lesson on "The Constitution."

We encouraged
everyone to
PRAY  & VOTE.

As you can see
Chelsey and
Devin have
recently become
engaged.

As usual, Josh avoids
the camera.

Katherine is hiding behind her hand.
Sorry, sweetie, we still know who you are.

Kip knows where the good stuff is - in the
kitchen with the others for rootbeer floats.

There she is!
Katherine is finally caught
by the eye of the camera.

Weather
We heard a tornado touched down
in a town a short distance away.
There was a flash of lightning followed
immediately by a huge roar of thunder.
Then the ocean came pouring out of the sky.
These pictures were taken within a
few minutes of the first raindrop.
